Background
According to the University of Texas Center for Research on Information Systems, “nearly half of the companies that lose their data through disaster never re-open, and 90% are out of business within two years.”
Therefore, Armor’s Advanced Backup solution is critical to keeping businesses afloat. Advanced Backup is a customizable cloud backup solution and data recovery plan, which powers instant recovery of an entire server or specific filesets. The section previously contained tabular data.
Business Goal
To create a visualization of data to show how storage is being utilized in Advanced Backup.
On monthly customer invoices, customers were seeing a rate ($0.00000023/Mb) and a quantity. However, there was no insight into the daily rate consumption, spikes or a historical view of the data. In addition, customers relied heavily on the backups for recovery of their data.
Design Goals
Designing a dashboard to summarize all of the policy details
Provide tagging for easy identification of server location
Begin displaying and customizing the styling for graphs using Chart.js to illustrate total current storage use
Improve the user experience for configuring, monitoring the status of and restoring backups using the Armor Management Portal (AMP)
Improve the experience for creating or editing the frequency and retention of policies
Success Metric
The Executive Leadership Team (ELT) was looking for a 25% drop in emails or interactions with Customer Experience team members regarding customer invoices and a 25% decrease in Engineering Service Requests (ESRs) for adjusting retention rates.
Stakeholders
Contextual inquiries were conducted with internal users, such as Engineers, Customer Experience Managers and Support Engineers, and external users were consulted for this intensive redesign. Development took place both offshore and locally, with the bulk of the project being developed offshore. With qualitative data compiled from these contextual inquiries, I created personas of our customer base, and conducted validation sessions with internal teams to gather feedback on the personas and the iterations.
MVP > In-Progress > Future State / Utilizing Chart.js graphs, I provided code snippets to remove the Y-axis and help to define UI styles.
Results
96% drop in emails or interactions with Customer Experience team members regarding customer invoices with MVP alone and a 80% decrease in Engineer service requests for adjusting retention rates.
